Preventing Carpal Tunnel

Are there any shears that can help prevent carpal tunnel syndrome?

The answer is yes; let me explain. Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by repetitive stress injuries in people who undergo the continuous use of their hands and wrists in daily living, such as a hair stylist. There are many benefits of using a swivel shear and this type cutting tool can relieve much of the stress and pain that you experience when cutting hair. Swivel shears allow you to comfortably cut hair, with your elbow in a down position and your wrist in a natural & neutral position. No matter what cutting technique you need to use, this will enable you to cut hair with less stress on your hand, wrist and shoulder throughout the day. As you are aware, there are different swivel shear blade sizes, but you need to know which one to use depending on the technique and desired outcome:

musashi shear MR3 The Musashi Shears model MR3 5.5 inch free floating thumb swivel with a narrow stance is great for fine work close to the head such as cutting a tight graduation, cutting hair around the ear and other detailing work. The MR3 6 inch version is excellent for cutting layers, deep point cutting techniques and the blade is long enough for your one length shapes. The Musashi Shears model MR3 is available in a left handed version as well.

musashi shear MR21-50 The Musashi Shears model MR21 5.5 inch free floating thumb swivel with a wide stance is great for fine work close to the head such as cutting a tight graduation, cutting hair around the ear and other detailing work. The MR21 6 inch version is excellent for cutting layers, deep point cutting techniques and the blade is long enough for your one length shapes.

musashi shear MR23 The Musashi Shears model MR23 ultra-control General Purpose Styling Shear also comes in the 5.5 inch free floating thumb swivel with tri-hole wide stance design is great for fine work close to the head such as cutting a tight graduation, cutting hair around the ear and other detailing work. The MR23 6 inch version is excellent for cutting layers, deep point cutting techniques and the blade is long enough for your one length shapes.

If you prefer not to use to use a swivel shear, or perhaps you just don't like them, there is an alternative. Your answer may be a shear with an ergonomic handle. ergonomic shears have an offset handle which feature a short thumb handle and a longer finger handle. This make the shears more comfortable and healthy to hold. By having a shorter thumb handle, they put less stress on the thumb tendon and therefore can help reduce the risk of CTS.

musashi shear MR27 The Musashi Shears model MR27 is a general purpose styling shear with comfort in mind. It's ergonomic thumb twist, semi offset rings and permanent finger rest make this an incredibly comfortable shear that cuts like a dream! The MR27 Scissors are available in 5.0, 5.5, and 6.0 inch lengths.
